In a really bad mood off three consecutive losses by the combined score of 24-11, the Braves will have no trouble pounding the Redbirds in this National League battle. Atlanta has Baltimore right on its tail for the best record in baseball and manager Brian Snitker will make sure his kids get back on track here.
Ace southpaw Max Fried will hit the hump for the home team. Since returning to the rotation on August 4th, No. 54 has made six starts and been touched for only 11 earned runs and 35 hits in 34.2 innings of work. Max struck out 38 and walked seven on his way to a 4-0 record with a strong 2.86 ERA. Equally impressive, under the lights, Fried has been at his best surrendering just 11 earned runs and 32 hits in 33.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 4-1 tally with an elite 3.00 ERA.
Aging right-hander Adam Wainwright will toe the rubber for the visitors. In the month of August, No. 50 was absolutely horrible allowing 25 earned runs and 37 hits in 20.2 innings. Adam whiffed 11 and walked nine on his way to a shocking 0-5 mark with an elevated 10.89 ERA. Even worse, at night, Wainwright has been waxed for 58 earned runs and 93 hits in 58.0 frames. That’s bad enough for a 2-8 tally with a stiff 9.00 ERA.
There are several strong team trends that support this Best Bet. Atlanta has won 44 of its last 68 in its own backyard, 61 of its last 92 when playing under the lights, 71 of its last 111 facing a right-handed starter, and 21 of its last 25 with Fried holding the pearl against an NL Central foe. On the other side of the field, St. Louis has slipped in 57 of its last 91 at night.
