TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND
#702 BELMONT (-1′) over Indiana St at 7:30 PM EST
Off that ugly 14-point loss at Drake and currently tied with Southern Illinois for the fourth spot in the MVC standings, Belmont will return home and do a number on visiting Indiana State. The Sycamores are locked into the No. 3 slot in the conference and, on a blistering 7-0 SU and ATS run, head coach Josh Schertz and his boys will finally meet their match on one of the toughest homecourts in all of college basketball.
Inside the Curb Event Center, the Bruins have been a force this season inking a solid 11-2 SU and 8-4 ATS mark and stand a phenomenal 48-5 SU and 31-16 ATS in Nashville since November 11th, 2019. In this run competitively priced as an underdog or a favorite of -17 or less, Belmont improves to a rewarding 36-3 SU and 25-8 ATS. Equally impressive, when coming off a straight up loss, head coach Casey Alexander and his crew hold a money-making 34-11 SU and 26-14-1 ATS tally including a powerful 19-2 SU and 14-4 ATS if they are playing in the comforts of home.
The Sycamores are hot. That fact is noted. However, ISU is locked into one of its worst team roles and Coach Schertz and his kids will have issues here. When matched up against an opponent that enters off a blowout loss of 10 points or more, the Sycamores own a weak 86-121-5 ATS mark including a nasty 68-104-5 ATS if their opponent takes the floor off a pointspread blemish as well. With those two parameters live and Indiana State coming off a home game, this team trend falls to a filthy 32-54-1 ATS. Finally, as a conference road underdog holding a team won/loss percentage of .670 or better, the Sycamores own a weak 9-28 SU and 12-23-2 ATS tally including a poor 6-21 SU and 8-18-1 ATS if they take the floor off a straight up win.
After getting slammed by the Bulldogs, the Bruins will bounce back and post an impressive win over one of the conference’s hottest teams. Take Belmont. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
