TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND

#305 CENTRAL MICHIGAN (+5′) over Northern Illinois at 7 PM EST
Off the 16-point home loss to Bowling Green and a string of four pointspread losses, Central Michigan will travel to DeKalb and upset Northern Illinois. The Huskies enter this MAC battle off a seven-point road loss to the Bobcats and, on a 1-6 SU run in their last seven games, head coach Thomas Hammock and his crew shouldn’t be laying points to anyone right now.

Revenge motivation will certainly have the Chippewas fired up for this contest. Last year, CMU (-6) hosted NIU and lost outright 39-38. Even with that blemish, the Central Michigan owns a respectable 10-5 SU and 11-4 ATS record in the last 15 meetings. Equally impressive, since 2005, the Chips own a lucrative 32-9 SU and 28-12-1 ATS mark as a conference guest provided they are lined up against a foe that arrives off straight up loss. In this situation priced as an underdog or a favorite of -3 or less, CMU tightens up to a powerful 17-4-1 ATS. With those two parameters live and head coach Jim McElwain’s boys fighting a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .500, this situation explodes to a nearly perfect 14-1-1 ATS.

This isn’t the best wagering situation for NIU either. When playing in the comforts of home and lined up against a foe that arrives off a SU and ATS loss, the Huskies have been a poor source of income inking a horrible 10-20-2 ATS record in their last 32 games. In this run priced competitively as an underdog or a favorite of -10 or less, Northern Illinois falls to a woeful 3-10-1 ATS. Also, Coach Hammock’s kids have struggled as a MAC host lately notching a rough 10-21-1 ATS record in their last 32 tries including a filthy 5-11-1 ATS if they are going into revenge.

In a payback mode, the Chippewas will find just enough offense to pull off this minor upset. Take Central Michigan. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
