TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21ST

#380 OKLAHOMA ST (+6′) over Texas at 3:30 PM EST on Saturday
In a bad mood off last week’s double overtime loss at TCU, Oklahoma State will return to Stillwater and upend a Texas team that arrives off three consecutive straight up wins over West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Iowa State. The Cowboys love to perform on Homecoming (won five of their last six and 11 of their past 14) and they’ve got enough offensive firepower to pull off this upset.

Based on the current pointspread on this contest (OSU is a +6.5-point underdog) it looks like backup quarterback Gunnar Gundy might be filling in for starter Spencer Sanders. A few weeks ago, Sanders injured his shoulder against Texas Tech and head coach Mike Gundy has limited his reps in practice. In this series, the Pokes have held the upper hand lately notching a solid 8-4 SU and 7-4-1 ATS record in the last 12 meetings. Additionally, the Cowboys have been at their financial best when coming off a straight up loss posting a solid 40-16 SU and 34-21 ATS record in their next game including an elite 23-7 SU and 21-9 ATS provided the ‘Boys were on the road in their last battle. Finally, inside the friendly confines of Boone Pickens Stadium, Oklahoma State has quietly ripped off 12 consecutive straight up wins.

Even though Texas likes to run the football, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian will surely try and attack a Cowboys pass defense that is ranked 126th in the FBS allowing an average of 301.0 yards per game. However, backing a UT squad that is currently on a dismal 13-19 SU and 12-20 ATS run when playing on the road isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In this situation facing a foe that enters without steam off a straight up loss, Texas falls to a feeble 7-13 SU and 6-14 ATS. Also, when priced as a single-digit favorite coming off two or more straight up wins, the Longhorns own a soft 17-26-1 ATS mark including 5-13 ATS provided their opponent owns a team won/loss percentage of .800 or better.

The Cowboys are one of six college teams in the nation that have won 19 of their past 22 games. Whether its Sanders or Gundy taking the snaps, the Pokes will find a way to keep this close and pull off the upset in the end. Take Oklahoma State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
