Off the competitive 2-1 loss to the Mets in the Big Apple last night, the Dodgers will bounce back with a solid effort in this daytime battle. Los Angeles owns the best record in baseball (90-39) and manager Dave Roberts and his crew will have no trouble grabbing this victory.
Veteran southpaw Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the visitors. With 15 starts in the books this season, No. 22 has been touched for only 25 earned runs and 69 hits in 85.1 innings of work. Kershaw struck out 88 and walked 15 on his way to a 7-3 record with a strong 2.64 ERA. Clayton’s efforts with the sun shining have been noteworthy too. In day starts, Kershaw has surrendered only nine earned runs and 31 hits in 44.1 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 4-1 tally with a powerful 1.83 ERA.
Right-hander Chris Bassitt will hit the hill for the home team. So far this year, No. 40 had his number called 24 times and he allowed 55 earned runs and 131 hits in 148.1 frames. Bassitt whiffed 139 and walked 37 on his way to a 11-7 mark with a 3.34 ERA. LA has given Chris fits lately. In his last two starts against the Dodgers, Bassitt was bombed for seven earned runs and 14 hits (four of which left the park) in 12.0 frames. That’s bad enough for an 0-2 tally with a soft 5.25 ERA.
There are several strong team trends that support this Best Bet. Los Angeles has won 61 of its last 87 when facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage greater than .500, 39 of its last 56 as a guest, and 35 of its last 51 in the third game of a series. On the other side of the park, New York has slipped in 25 of its last 32 at home in this series.
