TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, JUNE 26TH

#975 TORONTO with Berrios (-146) over Milwaukee with Gonzalez at 2:10 PM EST
After falling short by a run in yesterday’s battle with the Brew Crew, the Blue Jays will grab the series victory when they pick up this important road win. Manager Charlie Montoyo and his kids are still 11.5-games back in the AL East behind the first-place Yankees and they need as many wins as possible in order to stay in the hunt for the division title.

Toeing the rubber for the visitors will be righty Jose Berrios. With 14 starts to his credit this season, No. 17 has found a way to win games allowing 43 earned runs and 81 hits in 75.2 innings. Berrios struck out 63 and walked 18 on his way to a 5-3 record with a 5.11 ERA. Jose has enjoyed success in this series too. In his last two outings against the Brewers, Berrios has allowed no earned runs and one hit in 12.0 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 2-0 tally with a flawless 0.00 ERA.

Right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez will counter for the home team. So far this season, No. 21 has made three combined starts (two with the Twins and one with the Brew Crew) and been torched for nine earned runs and 16 hits in 11.0 innings of work. Gonzalez whiffed six and walked one on his way to an 0-1 tally with a stiff 7.36 ERA. Overall, with six years in the books, Chi Chi’s career numbers haven’t been much better. With a grand total of 64 appearances including 50 starts, Gonzalez has been slapped for 173 earned runs and 294 hits in 272.2 frames. That’s bad enough for a 9-24 mark and a weak 5.71 ERA.

If you need a little technical support for this wager, consider the following: Toronto has won four straight in the third game of a series, 39 of its last 55 when coming off a loss, 38 of its last 54 facing a foe that scored five runs or more last, and 20 of its last 29 when competing on Sunday. On the other side of the chalk line, Milwaukee has fallen in six of its last eight in the third game of a series, and nine of its last 12 when fighting in its own backyard.

The Blue Jays have the better arm on the bump and that will be the difference in this interleague battle. Take Toronto with Berrios. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
