TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, JUNE 4TH

#972 TEXAS with Otto (-125) over Seattle with Gonzales at 4:05 PM EST
Still winless in the month of June (0-3), the Rangers will rally the troops and scoop up a victory here. Seattle has slipped in 19 of its last 30 on foreign soil and the M’s are in no position to win three straight games on the road.

Up on the bump for the home team will be right-hander Glenn Otto. In his last two starts against the Devil Rays and Halos, No. 49 was right on target allowing only two earned runs and seven hits in 11.0 innings. Otto struck out 11 and walked five on his way to a 2-0 record with a powerful 1.64 ERA. Overall, with seven performances in the books this season, Glenn has been nicked for only 17 earned runs and 30 hits in 35.1 frames. That adds up to a 3-2 mark with a 4.33 ERA.

Lefty Marco Gonzales will take the mound for the M’s. With 10 starts completed this year, No. 7 has been tapped for 20 earned runs and 54 hits in 50.2 innings. Marco has fanned 29 and issued 17 free passes on his way to 3-5 record and a 3.55 ERA. Day starts have been a problem for the southpaw too. With the sun shining, Gonzales has been tripped for four earned runs and 11 hits in 9.1 frames. That adds up to an 0-2 record and a 3.86 ERA.

A handful of reliable trends support this investment. Texas has won five straight in the second game of a series, four of its last five against a left-handed starter, and six of its last eight at home. On the other side of the stadium, Seattle has fallen in 10 of its last 12 coming off a win, 17 of its last 23 as a road underdog, and five of its last six in the second game of a series.

The Rangers have a better road record (12-12) than home (12-15) and they’ll need to pick up the pace in their own backyard if they want to stay competitive in this division. Take Texas with Otto. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
