TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19TH
#520 UTAH (-13) over Houston at 9 PM EST
Off a six-point loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles and on a dismal 1-5 SU and ATS run in their last six games, the Jazz will return home and take care of business against the visiting Rockets on Wednesday night. Houston enters this contest off an upset road win at Sacramento and head coach Stephen Silas and his boys will be in serious trouble at this venue.
Sporting a 4-0 SU mark in the last four meetings, Utah hasn’t had any problems with Houston lately. Even more impressive, when hosting an opponent from the Southwest Division that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500, the Jazz have danced their way to a respectable 16-4 SU and 13-7 ATS record. Finally, as a double-digit non-division favorite busting in without confidence off a straight up loss, head coach Quin Snyder’s boys own a profitable 14-0 SU and 10-2-2 ATS tally in their last 14 battles.
This is a rough wagering spot for the Rockets. When coming off a straight up underdog win, Houston has imploded inking a horrible 20-41 ATS record in its last 61 lined games including a woeful 8-21 ATS provided the Rockets are playing on the road. With those two parameters in play and Houston fighting a foe that carries a team won/loss percentage of .460 or better, this technical situation falls to a miserable 2-16 SU and 3-15 ATS. Also, when coming off a straight up win, the Rockets have been at their financial worst inking a soft 6-14 SU and ATS mark in their last 20 games including a rough 1-7 SU and ATS mark provided they are playing on the road.
The Jazz have slipped into the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference standings, a full game back of the Grizzlies, and they need home wins in order to keep pace in the race for the No. 1 seed. Take Utah. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
