TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH
#834 WISCONSIN (-5′) over Providence at 9 PM EST
Off back-to-back blowout home wins over St. Francis (NY) and Wisconsin Green Bay, Wisconsin will cash another ticket when undefeated Providence arrives on Monday night. The Badgers don’t play again until the Maui Invitational (in Las Vegas) on November 22nd and they’ll be sure to give the Friars their complete attention.
Technically speaking, this is a solid spot for head coach Greg Gard and his crew. The last time UW dropped a non-conference game inside the Kohl Center was back on December 9th, 2017. Wisky was a 4.5-point home favorite to Marquette and lost outright 82-63. Since that blemish, the Badgers have been lights out at home against non-conference foes picking up 23 consecutive straight up wins by an average of 22.6 points per game. Equally impressive, in Madison checking in off the comforts of a home game, Wisconsin owns a reliable 103-61-1 ATS mark including a dependable 55-27-1 ATS if the Badgers are running the floor against a non-conference foe. With those two parameters live and UW battling an opponent that holds a team won/loss percentage of .700 or higher, this trend cruises to a powerful 28-10 ATS.
Checking in off a pair of victories at home over Fairfield and Sacred Heart, Providence will have a little trouble when it hits the road for the first time and steps up in class to battle Wisconsin. Yes, head coach Ed Cooley has a veteran group of players. However, the best-of-the best have gone into the Kohl Center and failed to get the dub. The Friars will too. In true road games holding a team won/loss percentage of .701 or better and arriving with four or more days of rest, Providence has been a poor investment notching a weak 15-34 SU and 18-31 ATS record. In this role priced as a favorite or an underdog of +11 or less, the Friars fall to a dismal 14-30 SU and ATS including a disturbing 5-20 SU and 4-21 ATS provided Coach Cooley’s troops are not going into revenge.
The Badgers are wet behind the ears, and they’ll be tested by this seasoned Friars squad early. However, the strength of the Kohl Center will be too much for the visitors in the end. Take Wisconsin. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
