Tom Stryker’s Free Basketball Play February 5th

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH

#834 MINNESOTA (-) over Wisconsin at 9 PM EST
In a bad mood off back-to-back beatings by Illinois and Michigan State and with a huge road game at Penn State on deck, Minnesota will rise to the occasion and knock off visiting Wisconsin. The Badgers enter this Big 10 road war off a huge home upset win over the Spartans and they’re ripe for a beating.

Owning a weak 12-32 SU and 19-25 ATS record in the last 44 meetings, it is obvious that the Golden Gophers haven’t had much success in this series. That’s about to change. Since the start of the 2018-19 season, head coach Richard Pitino’s boys have played competitive basketball inking a 33-24 SU and 30-24 ATS mark in their last 57 games. In this run playing inside the friendly confines of Williams Arena, Minny improves to a spectacular 23-5 SU and 17-8 ATS including a nearly perfect 11-1 SU and 9-3 ATS provided the Gophs take the court off a straight up loss. Finally, Big 10 hosts in conference play that are competing against a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better carry a reliable 83-51-2 ATS mark. If our “play on” home team arrives off a road war, this conference trend cruises to a rewarding 56-25-1 ATS.

Kudos to Wisky for knocking off Michigan State on Saturday. However, off that upset victory, the Badgers will get a quick reality check here. As it stands, Wisconsin is just 11-19-2 ATS in its last 32 games. In this run holding a Big 10 won/loss percentage of .501 or better, head coach Greg Gard’s boys have been at their financial worst posting a horrible 2-14-2 ATS mark including a woeful 0-11-1 ATS in this set provided their opponent does not enter off a blowout loss of 14 points or more. Also, when priced as an underdog and carrying a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better, the Badgers hold a stiff 8-16 SU and 8-13-3 ATS record in their last 24 games including 4-14 SU and 4-11-3 ATS provided Wisky is not off a blowout win of 15 points or more.

According to KenPom.com, the Golden Gophers have played the second toughest schedule in the NCAA. With a trip to Happy Valley up next, Coach Pitino knows his (11-10 SU) kids need this win and cover badly. Take Minnesota. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
