#980 PADRES with King (-129) over Red Sox with Giolito at 8:40 PM EST
After a 10-2 loss to the Red Sox last night, the Padres will face them again and be out for revenge. San Diego is currently 3.0 games behind in the NL West, and this game has implications for their pursuit of the division lead.

Michael King, a right-hander, will start for the home team. Returning from a shoulder injury, he has made 10 starts this season, allowing 16 earned runs and 40 hits in 55.2 innings, with 64 strikeouts and 17 walks, resulting in a 4-2 record and a 2.59 ERA. Over his two years with the Padres, King has appeared in 41 games (40 starts), giving up 73 earned runs and 184 hits in 229.1 innings, accumulating a 17-11 record and a 2.86 ERA.

For Boston, right-hander Lucas Giolito will take the mound. This season, Giolito has made 17 starts, surrendering 38 earned runs and 87 hits in 95.2 innings, with 81 strikeouts and 27 walks, compiling an 8-2 record and a 3.57 ERA. In his last four games against the Astros, Twins, Phillies, and Cubs, he allowed 11 earned runs and 19 hits in 23.1 innings, with a 2-1 record and a 4.24 ERA during that span.

There are a number of solid angles that support this selection. San Diego has won 30 of its last 51 games after a loss, 36 of its last 56 home games, 37 of its last 63 when favored, and 28 of its last 43 as the home favorite. Conversely, Boston has lost 30 of its last 56 road games.

The Padres remain in contention for the NL West title and they need as many home wins as they can get. Take San Diego with King. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
