The Mustangs have alternated wins and losses over their last 10 games and, off that three-point blemish to the Tigers in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, head coach Andy Enfield will have his Ponies ready to roll here. Northern Iowa brings a 20-12 SU record to Moody Coliseum in Dallas and the Panthers will struggle matched up against an SMU squad that is one of 12 teams in the top 50 nationally in field-goal percentage and field-goal defense.
Technically speaking, this is a decent wagering spot for SMU. When coming off a straight up loss, the Mustangs have bounced back posting a 6-0 SU and 4-1-1 ATS record in their last six games. Also, in the First Round of the NIT Tournament, squads from the ACC have performed very well notching an elite 57-17 SU and 48-26 ATS mark including a reliable 41-18 ATS provided they are not lying -10.5 points or more. Lastly, in non-conference play, SMU holds a strong 13-4 SU and 10-6 ATS record in its last 17 games.
This is a tough situation for skipper Ben Jacobson and his boys. Surprisingly, when sporting a team won/loss percentage of .460 or higher and hitting the hardwood off a straight up loss, UNI has been at its financial worst inking a weak 41-75-1 ATS record provided its opponent enters without steam off a straight up loss. If the Panthers were on the road or at a neutral site last, this team trend crashes to a stiff 25-60 ATS including just 16-45 ATS provided their opponent holds a pointspread won/loss percentage less than .540. Finally, in its last nine battles against a team from the ACC, Northern Iowa holds a poor 3-6 SU and ATS tally.
