TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, MARCH 4TH

#624 PURDUE (-10′) over Rutgers at 7 PM EST
Back on track off a double-digit straight up conference home win over UCLA and with a tough battle at Illinois on deck, Purdue will make the most of this last home game against Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights cruise over to West Lafayette off a heart-breaking two-point Big Ten road loss to the Wolverines and this will prove to a be a very difficult journey for head coach Steve Pikiell and his men.

In the last four meetings between these two schools, PU has come out on top inking a golden 4-0 SU record. Equally impressive, at home going into revenge and facing an opponent that enters off a road game, the Boilers have steamed their way to a lucrative 36-6 SU and 27-14 ATS record including a powerful 28-5 SU and 24-9 ATS provided they slip in off a conference game. With those two parameters cranking away and head coach Matt Painter and his kids fighting a foe that is not off a blowout loss of 10 points or more, this angle skyrockets to an outstanding 16-1 SU and 15-2 ATS.

Rutgers hasn’t exactly been one of college basketball’s best road teams. In fact, since December 23rd, 2020, the Scarlet Knights hold a soft 17-38 SU and 21-33-1 ATS record as a guest including a horrible 3-16 SU and ATS mark provided their opponent played in the comforts of home last. To make matters worse, Big Ten guests busting in off a road game have inked a poor 46-109 SU and 64-90-1 ATS mark in their last 155 tries. If our “play against” guest slips in without steam off a straight up loss, this technical situation crashes to a miserable 23-75 SU and 36-62 ATS including a filthy 5-50 SU and 18-37 ATS if our visitor is priced as a pup of +5 or more.

With the Scarlet Knights packing a scoring defense that allows an average of 76.5 points per game (ranked 299th in the NCAA), the Boilermakers will have no trouble extending the margin in this Big Ten battle. Take Purdue. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
