TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, JANUARY 16TH
#830 LIBERTY (-7′) over UTEP at 9 PM EST
Currently looking up at UTEP, Middle Tennessee, and New Mexico State in the CUSA standings and off a five-point loss at LA Tech, Liberty will return home and pick up a huge win and cover. The Miners make the trek to Lynchburg, Virginia off a crushing home loss in conference play to the Aggies and this will be a difficult encore for head coach Joe Golding and his boys.
Technically speaking, this is a highly profitable wagering spot for the Flames. Since February 2nd, 2023, CUSA home teams have been a solid investment in conference play inking a tremendous 95-45 SU and 84-55-1 ATS record. If our “play on” side holds a team won/loss percentage of .501 or higher, this CUSA situation improves to a healthy 65-21 SU and 58-28 ATS including a stunning 46-11 SU and 44-13 ATS provided our squad is not off a blowout loss of seven points or more. That bodes well for the Flames.
This isn’t the best wagering spot for UTEP either. As a conference guest, the Miners hold a pitiful 16-41 SU and 22-33-2 ATS record in their last 57 battles including a horrible 8-40 SU and 16-30-2 ATS provided they are priced as an underdog or a short favorite of -1.5 or less. With those two parameters live and Coach Golding and his boys fighting a foe that owns four or more days of rest, this angle falls to a nasty 2-18 SU and 5-14-1 ATS. Also, in a true road game arriving off the comforts of three or more home battles, UTEP carries a soft 2-12 SU and 4-10 ATS tally.
In this nationally televised contest on CBS Sports Network, the Flames will pick up one of their biggest wins and covers of the season. Take Liberty. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
