TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5TH

#400 PENN ST (-28) over UCLA at 12 PM EST
Ranked No. 7 in the country and off to a 4-0 SU start, Penn State will have no trouble smashing UCLA at high noon on Saturday. The Nittany Lions are staring at a pair of road wars at USC and Wisconsin and head coach James Franklin wants to go into those battles with plenty of momentum.

When coming off a straight up win and a pointspread loss, PSU has been a solid investment posting an elite 49-30-3 ATS record. In this setting tackling a foe that busts in off a conference game, the Nittany Lions improve to a rewarding 35-12-1 ATS including a stunning 26-6-1 ATS provided State carries a pointspread won/loss percentage of .500 or less. Additionally, when hitting the field with momentum off two or more straight up wins, Penn State holds a solid 34-16 ATS tally including 18-3 ATS if its opponent scoots in without steam off a straight up loss.

Off that season-opening straight up win at Hawaii, UCLA has fallen on hard times in its last three games losing to Indiana, LSU, and Oregon. This trip to Happy Valley won’t be an easy one for the Bruins either. Since the start of the 2024 season, winning teams (that that carry a won/loss percentage of .501 or higher) have dominated losing teams (those that own a team won/loss percentage of .499 or lower) inking a respectable 34-16 ATS record. If our “play on” side checks in off the comforts of a home game (and PSU does), this angle tightens up to a solid 24-8 ATS. UCLA is the losing team in this equation, and they are an automatic “play against” here.

Defensively, the Nittany Lions have given up a grand total of seven points in their last two games and that tenacious stop unit will key this blowout victory. Take Penn State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
