TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH

#971 HOUSTON RUN LINE with Kikuchi (-1′ -120) over LA Angels with Aldegheri at 9:38 PM EST
With a little steam off Thursday’s 6-3 road win over the A’s, the ‘Stros will travel to Halos Country and pound the Angels. Los Angeles has dropped two straight and struggled in their own backyard all season long (30-42) and they are in prime position to get roasted here.

Picking up the pearl for the visitors will be left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. With 29 combined starts in the bank this year, No. 16 has surrendered 75 earned runs and 155 hits in 156.2 innings of work. Yusei whiffed 183 and walked 40 on his way to an 8-9 tally with a 4.31 ERA. As a member of the Astros staff, Kikuchi has performed much better giving up just 14 earned runs and 30 hits in 41.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 4-0 record with a strong 3.07 ERA.

Greenhorn southpaw Samuel Aldegheri will get the call for the home team. So far, No. 66 has made two career starts against the Rangers and Mariners and allowed three earned runs and nine hits in 11.0 innings of work. Samuel whiffed 10 and walked five on his way to a 1-1 mark with a 2.45 ERA. In the minor leagues this year, Aldegheri made 19 starts and was cracked for 38 earned runs and 69 hits in 95.1 frames. That equates to a 6-9 tally with a 3.59 ERA.

There are a few solid angles that support this investment. For starters, Houston owns a reliable 138-105 run line record when it is competing on the road. On the other side of the field, Los Angeles has fallen in 159 of its last 286 against the run line when fighting a division foe and slipped in 367 of its last 692 against the run line overall.

The Astros have the more experienced arm on the bump and their third-ranked batting average (.262) will smash an Angels pitching staff that is ranked 26th in ERA (4.51). Take Houston on the run line. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
