TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, AUGUST 31ST
#929 BALTIMORE with Kremer (-158) over Colorado with Feltner at 8:10 PM EST
With a little steam off last night’s 5-3 road win over the Rockies and still resting 1.5-games back in their hunt for an AL East title, the Orioles will make it two straight in this rematch. Colorado is one of the two worst teams in the National League carrying a run differential of -208 and this will be another tough spot for manager Bud Black and his crew.
Grabbing the pearl for the visitors will be right-hander Dean Kremer. With 19 starts in the books, No. 64 has been touched for only 49 earned runs and 87 hits in 102.1 innings. Dean fanned 96 and issued 43 free passes on his way to a 6-9 record with a 4.31 ERA. In his last three outings versus the Astros, Mets, and Nationals, Kremer allowed only five earned runs and 14 hits in 18.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 2-0 mark with a strong 2.50 ERA.
On the hill for the home team will be righty Ryan Feltner. In 2024, No. 18 has made 24 starts and been punched for 70 earned runs and 141 hits in 127.1 frames. Ryan struck out 109 and walked 41 on his way to a 1-10 tally with a 4.95 ERA. At home, Feltner has been rocked for 36 earned runs and 70 hits in 54.1 frames. That shakes down to an 0-3 record with an elevated 5.96 ERA.
On a technical note, Baltimore has tasted victory in 179 of its last 301 games overall, 105 of its last 178 when coming off a win, 91 of its last 149 as a guest, and 50 of its last 74 as road chalk.
The Orioles are in the hunt for a division crown and losing to one of the worst teams in the National League isn’t an option at this stage of the season. Take Baltimore with Kremer. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
