TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, AUGUST 6TH

#961 PHILADELPHIA with Sanchez (-103) over LA Dodgers with Kershaw at 10:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off yesterday’s 5-3 road loss to the mighty Dodgers and on a rough 2-8 run, the Phillies will get back on track with a solid effort in this rematch. Philadelphia’s advantage in the NL East is resting at just 5.5-games over Atlanta and manager Rob Thomson and his players know they need to pick up the pace.

Left-hander Cristopher Sanchez will storm the mound for the visitors. So far this season, No. 61 has made 21 starts and been tapped for 45 earned runs and 123 hits in 120.2 innings of work. Cristopher whiffed 98 and walked 31 on his way to a 7-7 record with a 3.36 ERA. At night, Sanchez has performed at his best this year allowing only 29 earned runs and 95 hits in 93.2 frames. That shakes down to a 5-4 mark with a 2.79 ERA.

Aging southpaw Clayton Kershaw will counter for the home team. With only two starts completed this season, No. 22 has been zapped for five earned runs and 12 hits in 7.2 innings. Clayton struck out six and walked three on his way to an 0-1 tally with a 5.87 ERA. IN 16 career regular season starts against the Phils, Kershaw has put together a 4-6 overall record with a 2.76 ERA.

There are a number of lucrative team trends that support this investment. Philadelphia has inked a respectable 69-52 mark when coming off a loss, 135-98 tally when rolling without rest, and 119-85 record when matched up against a non-division foe.

The Phillies have six games left on this extended road trip and they need to pick up wins especially when they have the better arm on the bump. Take Philadelphia with Sanchez. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
