Rested and off a division road loss to the Giants (and a series loss), the Dodgers will make sure they send a message in this NL West war. Arizona checks in off a pair of home wins over Oakland and this will be a challenging spot for manager Torey Lovullo and his crew.
Right-hander Bobby Miller will toe the rubber for the home team. With five starts completed this season, No. 28 was tapped for 15 earned runs and 21 hits in 20.0 innings of work. Bobby struck out 21 and walked 12 on his way to a 1-1 tally with a 6.75 ERA. Overall, with 27 career starts in the books, Miller allowed 67 earned runs and 126 hits in 144.1 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 12-5 record with a 4.18 ERA.
Taking the bump for the visitors will be right-hander Ryne Nelson. In 2024, No. 19 has hit the hill 14 times (13 starts) and been zapped for 43 earned runs and 89 hits in 68.0 innings. Ryne whiffed 46 and walked 18 on his way to a 5-6 tally with a 5.69 ERA. Even worse, under the lights, Nelson has been nailed for 27 earned runs and 58 hits in 40.1 frames. That shakes down to a 3-4 record with an elevated 6.02 ERA.
Plenty of power angles support this investment. Los Angeles has inked a solid 25-16 record at home, 47 of its last 77 when playing on grass, and 38 of its last 61 when competing at night. On the visitor’s side of the yard, Arizona has slipped in 25 of its last 41 when lined up against an opponent that owns a team won/loss percentage greater than .500.
The Dodgers still own a commanding 7.5-game lead over the Padres in the NL West, and they need home wins in order to keep that comfortable cushion. Take the LA Dodgers on the run line with Miller. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
