In a bad mood off last night’s 4-2 home loss to the Marlins, the Mets will show no mercy in this right-back rematch. New York is sitting 9.0-games under the .500-mark and manager Carlos Mendoza and his troops need to pick up the pace especially at home (13-23 record).
Southpaw David Peterson will grab the pearl for the Boys from the Big Apple. With only two starts to his credit this season, No. 23 faced the Dodgers and Nationals and surrendered only four earned runs and 12 hits in 11.2 innings of work. David fanned five and issued three free passes on his way to a 1-0 tally with a 3.09 ERA. Overall, with 82 appearances in the books including 66 starts, Peterson was tapped for 171 earned runs and 329 hits in 344.2 frames. That equates to a 19-21 mark with a 4.47 ERA.
Hitting the hill for the visitors will be lefty Braxton Garrett. So far this year, No. 29 has made five trips to the mound and been zapped for 17 earned runs and 28 hits in 26.1 innings. Braxton struck out 24 and walked four on his way to a 2-1 record with an elevated 5.81 ERA. Even worse, in his last two performances against the Mets, Garrett was gashed for 10 earned runs and 10 hits in 8.1 frames. That shakes down to an 0-1 tally with a stiff 10.80 ERA.
This isn’t the best wagering spot for the visitors either. Miami has fallen in 43 of its last 66 overall, 18 of its last 29 as a guest, 12 of its last 17 in division play, and 19 of its last 22 when facing a left-handed starter.
The Marlins are the worst team in the National League and the Mets know they can’t afford any more losses to this bottom-feeder. Take New York with Peterson. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
