TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, MARCH 14TH

#784 UTAH ST (-12) over Fresno St at 3 PM EST
Peaking at the right time off three consecutive straight up wins, Utah State will have no trouble dismissing this overachieving Fresno State squad. The Bulldogs enter this MWC Tournament battle off a postseason upset win over the Cowboys and head coach Justin Hutson and his squad will get hammered here.

A quick glance at the History Book shows that USU has dominated this series lately inking a solid 13-2 SU and 9-6 ATS mark in the last 15 meetings. Even better, in the MWC Tournament, the Aggies have been worth the financial risk inking an elite 16-8 SU and ATS tally in their last 24 tries including a lucrative 14-0 SU and 11-3 ATS if they are laying points. Also, when favored by -3 or more and hitting the hardwood off a pointspread loss, Utah State holds a respectable 74-48-3 ATS tally including a phenomenal 38-20-1 ATS if its opponent takes the floor off an ATS victory. With those two parameters live and the Aggies off a straight up win, this team trend improves to a strong 22-7 ATS.

Kudos to Fresno State for knocking off Wyoming yesterday. However, investing on a ‘Pokes squad that is just 22-40 SU and 26-35 ATS in their last 62 games isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In this run stepping up in class and fighting a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .724 or better, this technical situation falls to a miserable 2-19 SU and 6-15 ATS including a horrible 0-9 SU and 1-8 ATS if the Cowboys arrive with steam off a straight up win. Finally, since 2004, teams coming off a straight up underdog win in the Mountain West Conference Tournament hold a soft 8-33 SU and 14-25-2 ATS tally including a nasty 7-29 SU and 9-25-2 ATS provided they hold a team won/loss percentage of .350 or better.

The Aggies are the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West Tournament for the first time and they won’t disappoint. Take Utah State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
