TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6TH

#680 CHARLOTTE (-7) over Rice at 7 PM EST
In a really bad mood on a woeful 0-3 SU and ATS run in its last three games, Charlotte will return home to the friendly confines of Halton Arena and run over visiting Rice. The Owls stumble into this matchup off back-to-back SU and ATS conference losses to the (Temple) Owls and Shockers and this will be a difficult spot for head coach Scott Pera and his players.

Even though the 49ers have won the last two meetings in this series, their 4-8 SU and 3-9 ATS mark in the last 12 will keep them focused on the task at hand. Thankfully, this game is being played in North Carolina. At home, head coach Aaron Fearne and his crew have been worth the financial risk posting an elite 32-9 SU and 28-12 ATS record in their last 41 battles. In this situation priced as a favorite from -3 to -13 points, Charlotte improves to a rewarding 23-3 SU and 21-5 ATS including an elite 13-0 SU and ATS provided its opponent holds a pointspread won/loss percentage less than .500. Finally, when taking the court without momentum off two or more straight up losses, the 49ers own a reliable 11-4 SU and 10-4 ATS tally in their last 15 tries.

It isn’t like Rice is playing lights out on the court right now. In their last 44 games, the Owls haven’t been worth a hoot inking a dismal 15-29 SU and 16-27 ATS record including a rough 8-21 SU and 10-19 ATS in this situation if they are locked up against a conference foe. With those two parameters in play and Coach Pera and his kids owning a team won/loss percentage of .365 or better, this angle crashes to a miserable 5-21 SU and 7-19 ATS. Lastly, when stepping up in class and competing against an opponent that holds a team won/loss percentage of .601 or better, Rice holds a timid 13-40 SU and 19-32-2 ATS tally in its last 53 tries.

Off the three blemishes and with a chance to tie the record at Halton by picking up their 13th straight up win, the 49ers will bounce back off their losses and get back on track in a big way. Take Charlotte. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
