TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31ST
#726 AUBURN (-17′) over Vanderbilt at 9 PM EST
Arriving off a pair of SU and ATS road losses at Alabama and Mississippi State and with a road war at Mississippi on deck, Auburn will have no trouble racing past Vanderbilt in this SEC mismatch. The Commodores limp into this battle off six consecutive straight up losses and this will be another tough spot for head coach Jerry Stackhouse and his squad.
The history in this series is certainly noted. The Tigers hold a surprising 14-28 SU and 12-28-2 ATS tally in the last 42 meetings (albeit 6-1 SU and 3-2-2 ATS in the last seven). Thankfully, when playing at home, head coach Bruce Pearl and his players have been at their financial best posting a strong 94-11 SU and 57-37-3 ATS mark including a rewarding 44-9 SU and 34-17-2 ATS provided they roll in off a conference game. Also, at home entering off two or more road battles and a pointspread loss, the War Eagle has been a solid investment posting a lucrative 17-7-1 ATS record.
On a soft 7-16 SU and 9-13-1 ATS run, Vanderbilt isn’t exactly lighting it up on the hardwood at the moment. To make matters worse, dating back to January 31st, 2023, SEC road teams hold a soft 42-78 SU and 51-68-1 ATS record provided they are lined up against a conference foe. If our “play against” guest is fighting a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .635 or higher, this SEC angle falls to a miserable 15-59 SU and 26-47-1 ATS including a hideous 4-32 SU and 10-25-1 ATS provided they bust in without steam off a straight up loss. That spells trouble for the ‘Dores.
The Tigers have won 13 straight inside the friendly confines of Neville Arena and they’ll have no trouble steamrolling the Commodores here. Take Auburn. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
