TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, JANUARY 20TH
#680 NEBRASKA (-3) over Northwestern at 2:15 PM EST
Checking in off a pair of straight up road losses at Iowa and Rutgers, Nebraska will use the strength of its homecourt to knock off this overachieving Northwestern squad. The Wildcats make the trek to Lincoln off a three-point home win over the Terrapins and this will prove to be a difficult spot for head coach Chris Collins and his crew.
Revenge motivation will have the Cornhuskers juiced up and ready to go here. In the last seven meetings between these two schools, Nebish has inked a disturbing 0-7 SU (3-4 ATS) record. Thankfully, in their own backyard arriving without steam off two or more straight up losses, the Huskers hold a respectable 60-41-2 ATS mark. If the Big Red come priced as a favorite or a short underdog of +2.5 or less, this team trend improves to a healthy 54-14 SU and 37-19-2 ATS including a profitable 36-11 SU and 33-13-1 ATS provided this is a conference game.
This is going to be a difficult wagering spot for the Purple Cats. Since 1995, single-digit Big 10 road underdogs have struggled in conference play posting a weak 287-350-7 ATS record provided they take the floor with confidence off a straight up home win. If our “play against” side is fighting a foe that was on the road last, this angle falls to a dismal 169-221-5 ATS including an ugly 74-97-1 ATS if their opponent owns a team won/loss percentage of .701 or higher. With those three parameters live and our guest carrying a conference won/loss percentage of .501 or better, this Big 10 angle falls to a woeful 50-77 ATS.
It’s Alumni Weekend in Lincoln and the Huskers will look to impress with a solid performance against the Wildcats. Take Nebraska. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
