TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, JANUARY 16TH
#656 BYU (-4′) over Iowa State at 9 PM EST
Back on track off a nice five-point road win at UCF, BYU will make it two straight when No. 24 Iowa State comes to town. The Cyclones enter this Big 12 war off a pair of SU and ATS conference home wins over the Cougars and Cowboys and this will be a challenging spot for ISU.
Owning a solid 16-4 SU and 13-6 ATS mark, there is nothing wrong with the way the Cougars have played in their last 20 games. In this run taking the floor with steam off a straight up win, the Stormin’ Mormons improve to an outstanding 12-3 SU and ATS. Equally impressive, in Provo, the Blue and White have played extremely well on their home floor inking a reliable 86-16 SU and 51-36-3 ATS mark including a profitable 40-8 SU and 30-16-1 ATS provided their opponent played in the comforts of home in their last contest.
If you want to fade Iowa State, make sure you do that when the Cyclones are on the road. As a guest, ISU has been at their wagering worst posting a weak 13-54 SU and 25-41-1 ATS including a pitiful 4-22 SU and 6-20 ATS provided State takes the court off a victory of four points or more. Even worse, as a single-digit conference road pup, head coach T.J. Otzelberger and his boys own a miserable 8-28 SU and 12-23-1 ATS tally including a nasty 4-25 SU and 7-21-1 ATS as long as their opponent is not off two or more straight up wins.
The Cougars are in the first of three games against ranked opponents, and they need to protect their home turf especially with No. 25 Texas Tech (away) and No. 5 Houston (home) on deck. Take BYU. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
