TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH
#197 SAN JOSE ST (+2′) over UNLV at 3 PM EST on Saturday
After starting the season with a 1-5 SU record, San Jose State has caught fire and looks to lock up a better bowl game and a shot at a spot in the Mountain West Conference Championship with a win in the City of Lights over UNLV. The Rebels enter this contest off a physical battle with the Flyboys and this will be a difficult encore for head coach Barry Odom and his kids.
A quick glance at the History Book shows that the Spartans have dominated this series inking a proud 11-2 SU and 10-2 ATS record in the last 13 meetings. Equally impressive, in their last 65 lined games, San Jose State holds a powerful 39-26 ATS mark including a respectable 25-13 ATS if Sparty is priced as an underdog. With those two parameters live and head coach Brent Brennan’s boys playing on the road, this team trend explodes to a magnificent 16-6 ATS. Also, in conference play lined up against an opponent that holds a team won/loss percentage of .400 or better, SJS owns a strong 24-8 ATS mark including a nearly perfect 11-1 ATS provided they take the field of battle with steam off a straight up win.
UNLV’s impressive 9-2 SU and 9-1 ATS record is noted and respected. However, when priced as a conference favorite, the Rebels struggled financially inking a poor 19-35 ATS mark. In this setting running at home and arriving off a conference war, Coach Odom’s troops fall to a filthy 6-21 ATS. Additionally, in last home game situations, UNLV has experienced issues notching a rough 8-18 SU and 9-17 ATS mark including an ugly 5-13 SU and 3-15 ATS if the Rebels were on the road in their last game. With those two parameters live and UNLV priced as a favorite or a short underdog of +1.5 or less, this team trend crashes to a stiff 0-9 ATS.
The Spartans have won their last five games by the combined score of 195-76 and they’re peaking at the right time. The overachieving Rebels will finally run out of gas here. Take San Jose State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
