TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH
#209 KANSAS (-3) over Oklahoma State at 3:30 PM EST
Off that impressive 51-22 home win and cover over the Knights and with a bye week on deck, the Jayhawks will travel to Stillwater and do a number on this overachieving Cowboys squad. Oklahoma State enters this Big 12 battle off a huge home upset win over Kansas State and this will be a really tough spot for head coach Mike Gundy and his kids.
Even though KU won and covered in its game against OSU last season, the Jayhawks 8-25-2 SU and 9-24-2 ATS record in this series dating back to 1980 will keep them focused on the task at hand. Thankfully, head coach Lance Leipold’s troops have been a cash cow lately inking a respectable 13-6-1 ATS record in their last 20 games. In this run priced as a favorite or an underdog of +3 or less, Kansas improves to a nearly perfect 8-1 SU and 6-1 ATS. Statistically speaking, Rock-Chalk-Jayhawk is a force offensively. Kansas is averaging 36.0 points and 433.7 total yards per game, and they will have no trouble outperforming an Oklahoma State attack that has struggled posting an average of only 23.4 points and 357.2 total yards per game.
Even though the Cowboys enter this Big 12 battle with confidence off an upset win over the Wildcats, backing an OSU bunch that is just 4-7 SU and 3-7 ATS in their last 11 games isn’t going to happen anytime soon. There is a solid system that works against the Pokes as well. Since 1980, college football teams that won straight up priced as a home dog of +10 or more in their last game own a soft 32-53-2 ATS record provided they are lined up against an opponent that holds a team won/loss percentage of .700 or better that arrives with steam off a straight up win. If our “play against” side busts in off a conference game, this situation crumbles to a rough 21-42-1 ATS. The Cowboys fit both parts of that negative wagering situation.
Back in the AP and Coaches Poll, the Jayhawks will prove they belong there by picking up a decisive Big 12 road win and cover. Take Kansas. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
