Checking in off last night’s 8-3 home loss to the Astros and resting 1.5-games back in their hunt for the final AL Wild Card spot, the Mariners will go after this division battle with everything they’ve got. Seattle got swept by Texas in Arlington from September 22nd to September 24th and manager Scott Servais will make sure his troops are ready to go here.
Young righty Logan Gilbert will hit the hill for the home team. In his last three performances against the Rangers, Dodgers, and Angels, No. 36 was bumped for 10 earned runs and 18 hits in 17.2 innings of work. Logan struck out 13 and walked six on his way to an 0-2 mark with a 5.10 ERA. Thankfully, under the lights, Gilbert has been at his statistical best (19 starts) surrendering just 43 earned runs and 98 hits in 115.0 frames. That shakes down to a 9-4 record with a respectable 3.37 ERA.
Sizzling southpaw Jordan Montgomery will toe the rubber for the visitors. Lined up against the Mariners, Red Sox, and Blue Jays in their last three performances No. 52 was scratched for just one earned run and 14 hits in 21.0 innings. Jordan whiffed 17 and walked three on his way to a 2-0 tally with a strong 0.43 ERA. But, with 14 road starts in the books, Montgomery has been zapped for 26 earned runs and 70 hits in 83.0 frames. That shakes down to a feeble 3-6 mark with a 2.82 ERA.
There are a few reliable trends that support this investment. Seattle has won 32 of its last 46 when playing on Thursday’s, 72 of its last 116 when priced from -100 to -150, and 54 of its last 84 with Gilbert holding the pearl. On the other side of the yard, Texas has fallen in 11 of its last 14 as a guest with Montgomery on the bump.
