#960 TORONTO with Gausman (-156) over Texas with Eovaldi at 7:07 PM EST
Off three consecutive losses to the Rangers including last night’s embarrassing 10-0 beatdown, the Blue Jays will respond under the Thursday night lights. Toronto is on the outside looking in at the AL Wild Card standings with a 1.0-game deficit and manager John Schneider knows his troops need this victory like blood.

Veteran right-hander Kevin Gausman will toe the rubber for the home team. In his last three performances versus the Royals, Rockies, and Nationals, No. 34 was tripped for only seven earned runs and 15 hits in 17.0 innings. Kevin struck out 22 and walked six on his way to a 2-0 tally with an elite 3.71 ERA. Equally impressive, with 14 home starts in the books this year, Gausman has surrendered just 30 earned runs and 75 hits in 88.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 5-3 record with a strong 3.07 ERA.

Veteran righty Nathan Eovaldi will pick up the pearl for the BoSox. Matched up against the A’s and Astros in a pair of September starts, No. 17 was cranked for four earned runs and eight hits in 3.2 innings of work. Nathan whiffed four and walked three on his way to an 0-1 tally with a weak 9.84 ERA. With 12 career outings in the books against the Blue Birds, Eovaldi has assembled a 1-3 record with a feeble 5.23 ERA.

On a technical note, the Rangers have slipped in 87 of its last 151 in the second half of the season and 114 of its last 210 when matched up against a right-handed starter.

The Blue Jays finish with a string of division foes, and they’ll need this dub in order to stay alive in their hunt for an AL Wild Card spot. Take Toronto with Gausman. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
