TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH

#928 BALTIMORE with Kremer (-166) over St. Louis with Hudson at 6:35 PM EST
Off the 7-3 road loss to the BoSox, the Orioles will return home and get the job done against the visiting Cardinals. Baltimore’s advantage in the AL East rests at 3.0-games over Tampa Bay and manager Brandon Hyde’s troops need to domiante St. Louis especially with a four-game set in its own backyard against the Rays up next.

Right-hander Dean Kremer will toe the rubber for the O’s. Facing the Halos, Pale Hose, and Blue Jays in his last three outings, No. 64 was touched for only one earned run and 15 hits in 16.2 innings of work. Dean struck out 15 and walked three on his way to a 1-0 record with a blistering 0.54 ERA. Equally impressive, with 19 starts under the lights, Kremer has surrendered 41 earned runs and 99 hits in 106.1 frames. After the math, that equates to a 10-3 mark with a strong 3.47 ERA.

Righty Dakota Hudson will counter for the visitors. Lined up against the Braves, Pirates, and Phillies in his last three starts, No. 43 was slammed for 11 earned runs and 16 hits in 17.2 innings. Dakota whiffed three and walked 10 (serious control problems) on his way to a 1-1 record with a 5.61 ERA. Also, with six road appearances in the books including three starts, Hudson has been hacked for 15 earned runs and 25 hits in 21.2 frames. That shakes down to a 2-1 tally with a weak 6.23 ERA.

Several quality trends back this interleague investment. Baltimore has tasted victory in 90 of its last 142 battles this season, 57 of its last 89 when playing at night, 56 of its last 92 matched up against a right-handed starter, and 33 of its last 51 when coming off a loss. On the other side of the field, St. Louis has fallen in 58 of its last 94 with the lamps glowing and 44 of its last 78 when coming off a loss.

The Orioles have 13 games remaining at home and they need to make them count if they want to be on top in the division when the season comes to an close. Take Baltimore with Kremer. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
