TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH
#959 LA DODGERS with Lynn (-146) over Miami with Chargois at 6:40 PM EST
Taking the field off last night’s 6-3 road loss to the Marlins and with blemishes in four of their last five games, the Dodgers will respond with a solid performance here. Miami has quietly ripped off five straight wins and the Fish are ripe for a beating.
Veteran right-hander Lance Lynn will toe the rubber for the visitors. Since coming over from the White Sox, No. 35 has made six starts for LA and been nipped for only 14 earned runs and 34 hits in 35.1 innings of work. Lance struck out 27 and walked eight on his way to a 4-1 record with a strong 3.57 ERA. Also, in nine career appearances against the Marlins, Lynn has assembled a respectable 4-2 mark with a 4.35 ERA.
Reliever JT Chargois will get a rare start for the home team. With 35 overall appearances in the books, No. 84 has surrendered 14 earned runs and 28 hits in 33.1 innings. JT whiffed 26 and walked 13 on his way to a 1-0 tally with a 3.78 ERA. Since the All-Star break, Chargois has taken the mound 11 times and been slapped for six earned runs and 12 hits in 11.1 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 4.76 ERA.
There are plenty of technical reasons that support this investment. Los Angeles has tasted victory in 63 of its last 96 when playing under the lights and 63 of its last 95 when matched up against a right-handed starter. On the other side of the field, Miami has fallen in 43 of its last 76 against winning teams and 32 of their last 55 in the second half of the season.
The Dodgers have some issues surrounding their squad right now (Julio Urias arrest and injuries to Max Muncy and Austin Barnes), but they have the advantage on the bump in this contest and that will prove to be the difference. Take Los Angeles with Lynn. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
