TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD
#910 LA DODGERS with Miller (-110) over Atlanta with Morton at 4:10 PM EST
In danger of being swept at home by the Braves and with three-game road sets against the Marlins and Nationals on deck, the Dodgers will dig deep and pick up this emotional victory. Los Angeles still owns the second-best record in the National League and manager Dave Roberts and his crew do not want to lose all four in their own backyard to Atlanta.
Rookie right-hander Bobby Miller will toe the rubber for the home team. With five August starts in the books, No. 70 was clipped for 10 earned runs and 24 hits in 28.0 innings. Bobby fanned 20 and issued nine free passes on his way to a 2-1 mark with a respectable 3.21 ERA. Equally impressive, with four day performances completed this season, Miller was nicked for just nine earned runs and 21 hits in 22.0 frames. That equates to a 2-0 record with a strong 3.68 ERA.
Aging right-hander Charlie Morton will storm the mound for the visitors. In the month of August, No. 50 battled the Rockies, Mets, Yankees, NY Mets (again), and Cubs and was touched for only six earned runs and 16 hits in 28.1 innings of work. Charlies struck out 37 and walked 15 on his way to a 4-1 tally with a sizzling 1.91 ERA. However, in his last two starts against The Blue Crew, Morton was mangled for 10 earned runs and 10 hits in 10.1 frames. That’s bad enough for an 0-2 mark with a stiff 8.71 ERA.
Several reliable trends support this power wager. Los Angeles has won 46 of its last 70 in its own backyard and 62 of its last 94 when matched up against a right-handed starter. On the other side of the stadium, with Morton holding the pearl on the road against NL West foes, Ground Chuck’s team has fallen in 10 of their last 13 overall.
The Dodgers are a proud group and they will make sure they walk away with one win in this series. Take Los Angeles with Miller. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
