Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play September 1st

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST

#914 LA DODGERS with Urias (+108) over Atlanta with Fried at 10:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off yesterday’s 8-7 home loss to the Braves, the Dodgers will return the favor in this rematch. Los Angeles owns the second-best record in the National League behind Atlanta and manager Dave Roberts will want his troops to defend their home turf against what is currently the best team in baseball.

Left-hander Julio Urias will grab the pearl for Los Angeles. Tossing against the Red Sox, Marlins, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and A’s in five August starts, No. 7 was nicked for only 10 earned runs and 24 hits in 31.0 innings of work. Julio struck out 36 and walked three on his way to a 4-1 mark with a powerful 2.90 ERA. Equally impressive, with 10 starts to his credit in his own backyard, Urias has been in a zone surrendering just 16 earned runs and 44 hits in 62.2 frames. That’s good enough for an 8-1 record with an incredible 2.30 ERA.

Southpaw Max Fried will counter for the guests. With August starts against the Giants (twice), Yankees, Pirates, and Cubs in the bank, No. 54 was tripped for 11 earned runs and 32 hits in 27.2 innings. Max fanned 28 and walked five on his way to a 3-0 tally with a 3.58 ERA. In his last three outings against the Dodgers, Fried was tagged for seven earned runs and 16 hits in 18.1 frames. That shakes down to a 1-1 mark with a 3.44 ERA.

Technically speaking, this is an ideal spot for the home squad. Los Angeles has won 46 of its last 68 when playing in its own backyard, 63 of its last 93 when playing at night, and 37 of its last 45 in the second half of the season with Urias holding the pill.

The Dodgers stormed back from a 7-1 deficit and fell short in last night’s 8-7 loss to the Braves. With one of their best arms on the mound, the home team will grab a little sweet revenge. Take Los Angeles with Urias. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
