TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, AUGUST 31ST
#955 ATLANTA with Strider (-142) over LA Dodgers with Lynn at 10:10 PM EST
Off a nice three-game sweep on the road against the Rockies, the Braves will travel to Dodgers Country and settle an old score. When these two warriors crossed paths in Atlanta back in late May, Los Angeles took two of three from the NL East studs and manager Brian Snitker will make sure his troops return the favor here.
Strong right-hander Spencer Strider will toe the rubber for the visitors. In the month of August No. 99 made five starts versus the Giants (twice), Mets, Pirates, and Angels and was nicked for only eight earned runs and 17 hits in 30.1 innings. Spencer fanned 37 and issued 11 free passes on his way to a 4-1 mark with an elite 2.37 ERA. Also, as a guest, Strider has been in a zone surrendering only 26 earned runs and 59 hits in 75.0 frames. That equates to a sweet 9-2 mark with a 3.12 ERA.
Aging veteran Lance Lynn will get the nod for the home squad. Since coming to LA from Chicago, No. 35 has made five starts and been touched for only seven earned runs and 27 hits in 31.0 frames. Lance struck out 26 and walked six on his way to a 4-0 tally with a 2.03 ERA. Back on July 15th with the Pale Hose, Lynn got the start (and win) against the Braves allowing four earned runs and six hits (two of which left the park) in 5.1 frames. The White Sox squeaked out a 6-5 victory.
There are plenty of reasons to like the visitors in this spot. Atlanta has won 69 of its last 106 when facing a right-handed starter, 18 of its last 29 versus NL West foes, 58 of its last 87 under the lights, and 60 of its last 86 coming off a win.
The Braves are rolling right now, and they’ll be anxious to prove they can win on this field, especially with one of their best arms on the bump. Take Atlanta with Strider. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
