TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23RD
#958 ATLANTA RUN-LINE with Morton (-1′ -105) over NY Mets with Quintana at 7:20 PM EST
Off a 3-2 win in this division war last night, the Braves will have no trouble extending the margin in this rematch. Atlanta’s high-octane offense has been limited to a grand total of 10 runs in its last three games and manager Brian Snitker’s boys will explode at the plate here.
Seasoned right-hander Charlie Morton will hit the hill for the home team. Battling the Yankees, Mets, and Cubs in three August performances, No. 50 was nicked for only five earned runs and 11 hits in 15.1 innings. Charlie struck out 18 and walked 12 on his way to a 2-1 record with a respectable 2.93 ERA. Under the lights, Morton has been in a zone surrendering just 35 earned runs and 89 hits in 98.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 9-6 tally with a powerful 3.21 ERA.
Aging southpaw Jose Quintana will take the mound for the visitors. Facing the Cardinals, Braves, and Orioles in his last three starts, No. 62 was touched for five earned runs and 13 hits in 18.0 innings of work. Jose whiffed 15 and walked nine on his way to a 1-2 mark with a 2.50 ERA. Even worse, in seven career starts versus Hotlanta, Quintana has assembled a rough 2-4 record with a woeful 6.49 ERA.
A number of highly profitable trends back this elite investment. Atlanta has cashed 55 of its last 80 coming off a win this season, 26 of its last 34 against NL East foes, and 133 of its last 197 when playing under the lights. On the other side of the diamond, New York has fallen in 30 of its last 37 when priced as a pup of +150 or more and 40 of its last 68 on foreign soil.
With a 10-game road trip looming, the Braves will close out their homestand with a blowout victory over the Mets. Take Atlanta on the run-line with Morton. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
