TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16TH
#929 BALTIMORE with Kremer (+150) over San Diego with Snell at 8:40 PM EST
After getting absolutely throttled by the Friars last night by the final of 10-3, the Orioles will respond with a nice upset victory here. Baltimore is holding on to a 3.0-game lead in the AL East over Tampa Bay and manager Brandon Hyde would love to see his troops head into their weekend series at Oakland with confidence off a dub here.
Strong right-hander Dean Kremer will pick up the pill for the road squad. In his last four performances versus the ‘Stros, Mets, Yankees, and Phillies, No. 64 was bumped for eight earned runs and 18 hits in 23.1 innings. Dean struck out 19 and walked 10 on his way to a 1-0 record with a respectable 3.09 ERA. Equally impressive, with 15 night starts completed, Kremer was nipped for only 37 earned runs and 79 hits in 83.2 frames. That shakes down to a solid 9-2 tally with an elite 3.98 ERA.
Southpaw Blake Snell will hit the hump for the home team. Matched up against the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Rangers, Pirates, and Blue Jays in his last five outings, No. 4 was touched for only seven earned runs and 17 hits in 27.0 innings of work. Blake whiffed 32 and walked 24 on his way to a 3-1 tally with a 2.33 ERA. In his career, Snell has made seven starts against the O’s and produced a 2-2 tally with a 4.59 ERA.
There are plenty of technical reasons to like the visitors in this battle, especially at this price. Baltimore has won 38 of its last 61 on foreign soil, 26 of its last 39 against a left-handed starter, and 29 of its last 45 when coming off a loss. On the other side of Petco Park, San Diego has dropped 20 of its last 31 coming off a victory of four runs or more.
The Orioles are in control of their division right now and they’ll need road quality road wins in order to stay there. This is one of them. Take Baltimore with Kremer. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
