Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play August 14th

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, AUGUST 14TH

#917 TAMPA BAY with Glasnow (-134) over San Francisco with Walker at 9:45 PM EST
After getting throttled at home by the Guardians yesterday, the Devil Rays will scoot over to the West Coast and slam the Giants on Monday night. Tampa Bay is sitting 3.0-games back in the AL East and manager Kevin Cash knows his troops need to crank their game up a notch.

Up on the hill for the visitors will be sizzling righty Tyler Glasnow. Since the All-Star break, No. 20 had his number called four times and was nipped for only five earned runs and 17 hits in 27.0 innings. Tyler whiffed 32 and walked six on his way to a 3-0 record with an outstanding 1.67 ERA. Equally impressive, with five road starts in the books, Glasnow was tripped for only nine earned runs and 26 hits in 29.1 frames. That’s good enough for a 3-1 mark with a strong 2.76 ERA.

Rookie right-hander Ryan Walker will counter for the home team. With 30 appearances this season including eight starts, No. 74 has been slapped for 11 earned runs and 38 hits in 41.1 innings of work. Ryan struck out 44 and walked 11 on his way to a 4-1 tally with a 2.40 ERA. Additionally, at home, Walker has taken the bump 15 times (six starts) and surrendered six earned runs and 24 hits in 23.1 frames. That equates to a 2-0 mark with a 2.31 ERA.

Technically speaking, this is a lucrative spot for the visitors. Tampa Bay has cashed 40 of its last 76 when playing under the lights and 57 of its last 99 when matched up against a right-handed starter. On the other side of the diamond, San Francisco has dropped 23 of its last 50 against American League foes and 23 of its last 38 in the month of August.

The Rays have some work to do in their division and, off the loss, they’ll take their frustrations out on the hapless Royals. Take Tampa Bay with Glasnow. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
