TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, AUGUST 5TH
#974 PHILADELPHIA RUN-LINE with Sanchez (-1′ -118) over Kansas City with Marsh at 6:05 PM EST
In a bad mood off Friday’s 7-5 home loss to the Royals, the Phillies will bounce back with a solid effort in this revenge matchup. Philadelphia is in second place in the hunt for the National League Wild Card and manager Rob Thomson knows his kids need to crank their game up a notch inside the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park (just 28-21 this season).
Lefty Cristopher Sanchez will toe the rubber for the home team. In July, No. 61 made five starts for the defending National League Champions and was scratched for seven earned runs and 17 hits in 28.0 innings. Cristopher struck out 21 and walked four on his way to a 0-1 mark with an impressive 2.25 ERA. In his short three-year career, Sanchez has appeared in 31 games (13 starts) and been nicked for 46 earned runs and 89 hits in 100.0 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 3-5 tally with a 4.14 ERA.
Rookie right-hander Alec Marsh will pick up the pill for the visitors. So far this year, No. 67 has appeared in six games (five official starts) and been punished for 18 earned runs and 24 hits in 24.0 innings of work. Alec whiffed 28 and walked 15 on his way to a horrible 0-5 record with a stiff 6.75 ERA. The road has been a problem for this former ASU Sun Devil, too. As a guest, Marsh has been mauled for 11 earned runs and 13 hits in 13.0 frames. That’s bad enough for an 0-2 tally with a 5.73 ERA.
A couple of highly profitable trends support this investment. Kansas City has fallen in 75 of its 111 games this season including a woeful 45 of its last 64 when playing under the lights.
With the Reds, Marlins, Diamondbacks, and Cubs all within reach of the NL Wild Card race, the Phillies simply can’t afford to fall to the second worst team in baseball. Take Philadelphia on the run-line with Sanchez. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
