TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, AUGUST 3RD

#956 MILWAUKEE with Houser (-130) over Pittsburgh with Keller at 7:15 PM EST
Off yesterday’s road loss to the Nationals and on a concerning 1-5 run, the Brew Crew will return home and take care of business against the visiting Pirates. Milwaukee is resting a half-game behind Cincinnati in the NL Central standings and manager Craig Counsell’s crew will be primed and ready for this critical division battle.

Right-hander Adrian Houser will take the mound for the home team. Since the 29th of June, No. 37 has made five starts and been tapped for 15 earned runs and 33 hits in 26.2 innings of work. Adrian fanned 27 and issued 10 free passes on his way to a 1-1 mark with a 5.06 ERA. With 13 career appearances in the books versus the Bucs including nine starts, Houser has pitched well posting a 3-3 record with a respectable 4.05 ERA.

Countering for the visitors will be righty Mitch Keller. Matched up against the Phillies, Angels, and Guardians in his last three outings, No. 23 was assaulted for 16 earned runs and 25 hits in 16.2 innings. Mitch whiffed 16 and walked six on his way to an 0-3 tally with a stiff 8.64 ERA. Also troubling, with five career starts in the bank against the Brew Crew, Keller has struggled inking an 0-3 mark with a 4.62 ERA.

There are several strong team trends that support this Best Bet. Milwaukee has tasted victory in 22 of its last 32 against division foes, 43 of its last 76 against right-handed starters, and 27 of its last 37 coming off six or more road wars. On the other side of the yard, Pittsburgh has fallen in 45 of its last 69 when facing an opponent that owns a team won/loss percentage greater than .500.

The Brewers play seven consecutive home games against the Pirates and Rockies (both own losing records), and they can grab control of the division provided they get the job done in those battles. Take Milwaukee with Houser. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
