In a bad mood off that 5-0 shutout road loss to the M’s, the Twins will return to Target Field and pick up a huge division win over the Pale Hose. Chicago enters this matchup off a huge 6-2 road dub at New York (Mets) and the White Sox will run out of gas in this their seven straight road war.
Hungry right-hander Joe Ryan will storm the bump for the home team. In three July starts versus the A’s, O’s, and Royals, No. 41 was blitzed for 10 earned runs and 16 hits in 15.2 innings of work. Joe struck out 26 and walked six on his way to an 0-1 mark with a 5.75 ERA. Thankfully, in the Twin Cities, Ryan has been at his statistical best surrendering just 21 earned runs and 52 hits in 55.1 frames. That’s good enough for a 5-3 record with a phenomenal 3.32 ERA.
Seasoned righty Lance Lynn will counter for the guests. Lined up against the Braves, Blue Jays, and Halos in his last three outings, No. 33 was nipped for nine earned runs and 15 hits in 18.1 innings. Lance fanned 24 and issued six free passes on his way to a 2-0 mark with a 4.42 ERA. The road has been a problem for the former Ole Miss hurler. On foreign soil, Lynn has been lashed for 42 earned runs and 67 hits in 62.2 frames. That’s bad enough for a 4-4 tally with an elevated 6.03 ERA.
This is a difficult wagering spot for the visitors as well. Chicago has fallen in 25 of its last 38 coming off a victory by four runs or more in its last game, 24 of its last 33 taking the field off three or more as a guest, and 26 of its last 39 checking in with confidence off a straight up win.
Sitting on top in the AL Central with a 2.0-game advantage over the Guardians, the Twins understand the importance of winning this division battle. Take Minnesota with Ryan. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
