TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, JUNE 11TH

#908 ST. LOUIS with Wainwright (-126) over Cincinnati with Greene at 2:15 PM ES
After getting blasted 8-4 at home by the Big Red Machine, the Redbirds will storm back with a solid effort with a series victory on the line. St. Louis is resting in the cellar in the NL Central and manager Oliver Marmol knows his troops need to pick up the pace immediately especially in their own backyard.

Veteran righty Adam Wainwright will toe the rubber for the home team. In his last two starts against the Rangers and Royals, No. 50 allowed six earned runs and 17 hits in 10.1 innings of work. Adam struck out nine and walked four on his way to an 0-1 tally with a 5.23 ERA. With 40 appearances versus the Reds in the books (35 starts), Wainwright has inked an 11-17 tally with a 5.53 ERA.

Young righty Hunter Greene will counter for the visitors. Facing the BoSox, Cubs, and Bronx Bombers in his last three outings, No. 21 was zapped for five earned runs and six hits in 19.0 innings. Hunter whiffed 29 and walked eight on his way to a 1-1 mark with a 2.37 ERA. Overall, with 36 career starts completed for the Big Red Machine, Greene has been gashed for 89 earned runs and 161 hits in 187.2 frames. That breaks down to a woeful 6-17 tally with a 4.27 ERA.

This is the perfect spot to fade the visitors too. Cincinnati has slipped in 31 of its last 46 against division foes, nine of its last 12 in the third game of a series, and seven of its last eight when playing on Sunday. On the other side of the yard, St. Louis has won 10 of its last 14 after allowing five runs or more last and 21 of its last 30 at home facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500.

The Cardinals have some work to do in the NL Central and they can’t afford any more home losses to division foes with losing records. Take St. Louis with Wainwright. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
