TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, MAY 1ST
#960 NY YANKEES with German (-130) over Cleveland with Quantrill at 7:05 PM EST
After dropping three straight at Texas, New York will return to the Big Apple and take care of business when Cleveland pays a visit. The Guardians stumble into this contest off a pair of road losses to the Red Sox and they’ll have trouble as a guest once again in this matchup.
Right-hander Domingo German will hit the hump with a chip on his shoulder here. In his last two outings against the Twins and Blue Jays, No. 0 was popped for 10 earned runs and 10 hits in 12.0 innings. Domingo struck out 14 and walked four on his way to a 1-1 tally with a soft 7.50 ERA. Thankfully, back on April 10th, German faced Cleveland on the road and allowed one earned run and two hits in 3.0 frames. Even though Domingo failed to earn a decision, the Bronx Bombers lost that battle 3-2.
Right-hander Cal Quantrill will grab the pearl for the Guardians. In his last performance at home against the Rockies, No. 47 was cooked for five earned runs and eight hits in just 3.1 innings of work. Cal fanned a pair, walked a pair, and was tagged with the “L” in the 6-0 beatdown against Colorado. Overall, Quantrill has made five starts this season and has been ripped for 15 earned runs and 33 hits in 25.0 frames. That shakes down to a 1-2 tally with a soft 5.40 ERA.
Plenty of powerful money-making trends support this wager. New York has tasted victory in 41 of its last 54 at home facing a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .500, 62 of its last 87 against AL Central foes, and 51 of its last 75 at home in this series. On the other side of the field, Cleveland has slipped in seven of its last eight when facing an opponent that allowed five runs or more last.
Currently tied for the last place in the AL East with the Red Sox, the Yankees will make sure they crank their game up against the Guardians especially with a three-game set on the road against the Devil Rays on deck. Take New York with German. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
