TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, MARCH 10TH
#852 VIRGINIA (-2′) over Clemson at 9:30 PM EST
The Cavaliers apply to a reliable 51-28 ATS postseason system and, even without the services of 6-foot-8 Ben Vander Plas, head coach Tony Bennett and his boys will rally the troops once again and knock off the Tigers. Clemson enters this ACC semifinal off a pair of blowout wins over Notre Dame and NC State by 23 and 26 points and the Tiger Paw will get a quick reality check here.
Historically speaking, Virginia has dominated this series inking a strong 39-16 SU and 31-22-2 ATS mark including a sweet 16-2 SU and 13-5 ATS provided they take the floor with confidence off two or more straight up wins. Equally impressive, since February 6th, 2016, the Cavs have been a force in conference play notching a solid 115-39 SU and 87-64-3 ATS record including a profitable 58-23 SU and 50-30-1 ATS provided their opponent owns a pointspread won/loss percentage of .500 or better. With those two parameters in play and the Wahoos priced as an underdog or a favorite of -4 of less, this technical situation cruises to an elite 27-15 SU and 29-12-1 ATS.
This is going to be a difficult wagering spot for Clemson. When playing with revenge of any kind, the Tigers hold a soft 29-40 SU and 28-39-2 ATS record including a feeble 13-36 SU and 18-30-1 ATS provided they are priced as an underdog or a favorite of -2.5 or less. With those two parameters live and the Tiger Paw holding a team won/loss percentage of .535 or better, this technical situation crashes to a horrible 6-32 SU and 9-28-1 ATS. That spells trouble for head coach Brad Brownell and his kids.
Defensively, the Cavs are a force and they will lean on that tenacious stop unit to pick up this win and cover. Take Virginia. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
