TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH

#884 IPFW (+3′) over Northern Kentucky at 7 PM EST
On an ugly 0-3 SU and ATS run with blemishes to Detroit, Youngstown State, and Robert Morris, IPFW will return to the friendly confines of Memorial Coliseum and pick up a much needed victory over Northern Kentucky. The Norse enter this Horizon League battle off a massive 86-47 win and cover on Senior Night over the Jaguars and they’ll have issues in this spot off that blowout victory.

A quick look at the History Book shows that the Mastodons have struggled in this series inking a 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS tally and have quietly posting a dismal 0-3 SU and ATS record in the least three meetings. Thankfully, when running the floor with revenge of any kind and now facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better, the ‘Dons have been worth the financial risk inking a respectable 13-7-1 ATS mark in their last 21 tries. In this run competing with four or more days of rest, IPFW improves to a healthy 8-2 ATS. Also, since 2003, Horizon League hosts that own a team won/loss percentage of .501 or higher hold a lucrative 62-40-2 ATS tally provided they take the court without confidence off back-to-back SU and ATS losses. If our “play on” side owns a pointspread won/loss percentage less than .500 and is currently fighting a foe that arrives with four or more days of rest, this conference situation explodes to a jaw-dropping 21-5-1 ATS.

Kudos to NKU for knocking the snot out of IUPUI. However, backing a Norse squad that is currently on a dismal 8-18 ATS run isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In this setting storming the court with momentum off a SU and ATS victory, head coach Darrin Horn and his kids fall to a miserable 1-7 ATS. Additionally, in true road games, Northern Kentucky has struggled lately posting a soft 10-14 SU and 9-15 ATS mark. If the Norse are fortunate enough to check in with confidence off a straight up win, this team trend crashes to a woeful 2-9 SU and 1-10 ATS including a horrible 0-9 SU and ATS if they are priced as an underdog or a favorite of -10 or less.

Resting uncomfortably with a 7-9 SU mark in the conference standings, the ‘Dons will rally the troops and pick up a huge win and cover here. Take IPFW. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
