TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, JANUARY 20TH
#896 NEW MEXICO (-2′) over Boise St at 11 PM EST
In a zone right now off three straight wins and covers over Oral Roberts, San Diego State, and San Jose State, New Mexico will rise up to the challenge and knock off one of the Mountain West Conference’s best teams. Boise State enters this contest on a roll of its own (5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in its last five) and this trip to The Pit will be a difficult one for head coach Leon Rice and his boys.
Revenge motivation will have the Lobos fired up for this contest. UNM owns a rough 2-6 SU and 0-7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings in this series and has quietly dropped four straight. Thankfully, in Albuquerque, head coach Richard Pitino and his troops hold a powerful 17-2 SU and 12-5 ATS tally in their last 19 games including a sensational 9-0 SU and 7-1 ATS in their last nine in this situation hitting the hardwood with momentum off two or more straight up wins. In addition, at home running with revenge of any kind, New Mexico sports a strong 30-15-1 ATS record provided its opponent checks in off a blowout win of 10 points or more. Please note: This angle is currently on a blistering 20-4 SU and 19-4-1 ATS run.
This is actually a tough wagering spot for Boise State too. In conference play checking in with confidence off a SU and ATS victory and now battling a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .801 or better, the Broncos have been at their financial worst inking a weak 4-16 SU and 6-14 ATS record. In this setting arriving off the comforts of a home game, BSU falls to a miserable 2-7 SU and ATS. Also, when carrying a team won/loss percentage of .750 or better and taking the court off three or more pointspread wins, Coach Rice and his players have posted a soft 9-16 ATS mark.
With a victory over BSU, the Lobos would tie the second-best 20-game start in UNM history. The strength of The Pit will be the difference in this Mountain West war. Take New Mexico. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
