TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH

#133 UCLA (-10′) over California at 4:30 PM EST
Checking in upset off back-to-back SU and ATS losses to Arizona and USC, UCLA will finish its regular season with a dominant performance at California. The Golden Bears escaped with a 27-20 come-from-behind win over Stanford last week and Cal won’t be as fortunate in this matchup.

Historically speaking, the Bruins have been at their best in this battle when facing a Bears squad that enters with confidence off a straight up win – now 9-5 SU and ATS in the last 14 meetings. In addition, when coming off two or more straight up losses, UCLA has inked a reliable 18-7 ATS tally in its last 25 battles provided they check in off a home war. If head coach Chip Kelly’s boys are going into revenge, this team trend tightens up to a solid 7-2 ATS. Finally, when lined up against an opponent that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500, the Bruins sport a nearly perfect 12-1 SU and ATS mark including a golden 11-0 SU and ATS provided they are not favored by -18 or more.

Kudos to Cal for storming back to knock off a bad Stanford team in its last outing. However, backing a Golden Bears bunch that holds a dismal 33-50 ATS record when lined up against an opponent that busts in off a straight up loss isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In this situation fighting a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better, California falls to a miserable 12-31 ATS including a ridiculous 4-19 ATS if it takes the field with confidence off a straight up win. With those two parameters in play and Golden Bears priced between -4.5 and +16, this team trend crashes to a shocking 0-11 SU and ATS.

Bruins quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is 474 yards away from being the all-time leader in passing yards at the school. Rest assured; Coach Kelly will do everything in his power to help him get that record. Look for the Bruins to air it out against a Cal pass defense that is ranked 127th in the FBS allowing an average of 287.7 yards per game. Take UCLA. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
