TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28TH
#139 NOTRE DAME (+2′) over Syracuse at 12 PM EST on Saturday
Resting uncomfortably with a 4-3 SU record through seven games, Notre Dame will need to finish strong if it has visions of going to a meaningful bowl game. The Fighting Irish still have No. 5 Clemson and No. 10 Southern California left on their schedule which means they’ll need victories over the Orangemen, Midshipmen, and BC Eagles to finish with a 7-5 SU record. (There is no way the Golden Domers are beating the Tigers or Trojans!) Let’s take a look inside the numbers.
As a regular season underdog, UND has been worth a look financially posting a solid 21-10 ATS record in its last 31 tries. In this setting checking in off the comforts of a home game, the Irish improve to a reliable 15-6 ATS. Equally impressive, in true road wars, Notre Dame has played extremely well lately notching an elite 16-3 SU and 14-5 ATS mark in its last 19 tries including a money-making 10-2 SU and 11-1 ATS if it is tackling a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .500 or better.
Coming off their first straight up loss of the season, Syracuse will have trouble bouncing back in this challenging encore. In this series, the Orangemen have struggled lately posting a dismal 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS record in the last four meetings. It should be noted that those four blemishes came by an average of 22.5 points per game. Also, when holding a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better and checking in off back-to-back pointspread wins, the ‘Cuse carries a soft 9-13 SU and 8-14 ATS mark in their last 22 tries including a miserable 5-13 ATS if they are priced as a favorite or an underdog of +17.5 or less.
Head coach Marcus Freeman had his squad ready when they visited Columbus, Chapel Hill, and Las Vegas, and he will have the Irish focused and determined in this critical business trip. Take Notre Dame. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
