TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14TH
#190 WESTERN MICHIGAN (+1′) over Ohio at 3:30 PM EST (Saturday)
Coming off that ugly 45-23 home loss to EMU, WMU will bounce back in a big way in this Homecoming battle. Ohio makes the trip to Kalamazoo off an easy 55-34 home win and cover over hapless Akron and the Bobcats will get rocked inside Waldo Stadium.
There are a couple of power angles that support this investment. First, since 2000, these two MAC powerhouses have crossed paths nine times and Western Michigan has posted a solid 7-2 SU and 6-3 ATS mark. Second, MAC hosts priced between -7 and +14 points hold a lucrative 56-34-2 ATS record provided they check in off a straight up home loss. If both teams take the turf off conference games, this MAC situation tightens up to a powerful 42-21-2 ATS including a lucrative 38-15-2 ATS if the host owns a team won/loss percentage greater than .100.
Kudos to the Bobcats for ripping the Zips last weekend. However, laying points on the MAC road with an Ohio team that is just 14-19 SU and 13-18 ATS in its last 33 battles isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Also, as a conference guest coming off the comforts of a home game, Ohio holds a soft 11-19 ATS mark provided its opponent enters off a pointspread loss. In this role priced as a favorite or an underdog of +7.5 or less, the Bobcats fall to a miserable 8-18 ATS.
With a pair or road wars at Miami and Bowling Green on deck, head coach Tim Lester will make sure his kids understand the importance of this victory. After six games, the Broncos sit uncomfortably with a 2-4 SU record, and they have no margin for error especially in their own backyard. Take Western Michigan. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
