TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7TH

#304 RUTGERS (+3) over Nebraska at 7 PM EST
Sitting uncomfortably in the Big 10 with an 0-2 SU record and off back-to-back losses to Iowa and Ohio State, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano will have his troops ready to pull off the upset in this primetime battle on FS1. Nebraska enters this contest off a 35-21 home win and cover over Indiana and asking the Cornhuskers to win two straight will be a tall order for interim head coach Mickey Joseph and his kids.

Even though the Scarlet Knights have never beaten Nebish (0-5 SU), Coach Schiano’s proud stop unit might have something to say about that on Friday night. RU’s “D” is a good one and finds itself nationally ranked in total defense (18th allowing an avg of 282.2 ypg) and rushing (18th surrendering an avg of 95.6 ypg). Emotions will be high inside SHI Stadium too. This will be a “Blackout Game” for Rutgers and the team will suit up in all black uniforms and black helmets for this matchup. Coach Schiano will be looking to improve his 16-8 mark in home night games (2020 Covid results excluded) too. Finally, holding a team won/loss percentage of .600 or better and priced as a short underdog of +5.5 or less, the Scarlet Knights own a respectable 10-5 ATS mark provided their opponent arrives with steam off a straight up win.

Kudos to the Cornhuskers for dominating a poor Hoosiers squad. However, backing a Nebraska bunch that is just 23-44 SU and 25-36-3 ATS in its last 67 games isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In this run priced as a favorite, the Big Red fall to a horrible 10-19-2 ATS including a pathetic 7-18-2 ATS provided this is not their last home game. Also, when coming off a SU and ATS victory, Nebraska has been at its financial worst inking a horrible 29-47-4 ATS mark including a woeful 17-33-3 ATS if it is favored. With those two parameters live and Nebish tackling a conference foe, this team trend crashes to a miserable 12-26-2 ATS.

After getting throttled by 17 against the Hawkeyes and 39 versus the Buckeyes, the Scarlet Knights will dig deep and ride the emotion of their home crown to a nice upset victory in primetime here. Take Rutgers. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
