Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play September 26th

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH

#907 BALTIMORE with Lyles (+102) over Boston with Seabold at 7:10 PM EST
Off back-to-back home losses to the ‘Stros and on the outside still looking in at the AL Wild Card race a full 4.0-games back, the O’s have no margin for error with only 10 battles left. Baltimore is scheduled to play its next seven on foreign soil against Boston (4) and New York (3) and manager Brandon Hyde’s troops need to step it up right now.

Veteran right-hander Jordan Lyles will hit the hump for the visitors. With 30 starts in the books this season, No. 28 has been tapped for 85 earned runs and 187 hits in 170.0 innings of work. Lyles struck out 135 and walked 50 on his way to an 11-11 mark with a 4.50 ERA. Revenge will be on Jordan’s mind too. Back on September 10th at home versus the BoSox, Lyles was lashed for eight earned runs and seven hits in just 3.2 frames. Jordan suffered the loss in the Orioles 17-4 whipping.

Young righty Connor Seabold will grab the pearl for the home team. So far this year, No. 67 has made four starts and been punched for 19 earned runs and 30 hits in 16.1 innings. Seabold whiffed 17 and walked six on his way to an ugly 0-3 mark with an elevated 10.47 ERA. Connor’s lone home performance was his worst of the season. Matched up against the Bronx Bombers on July 8th, Seabold was hammered for seven earned runs and nine hits in 2.2 frames. Connor was tagged with the “L” in Boston’s 12-5 blemish.

There are a handful of solid team trends that assist this wager. Baltimore has won 14 of its last 20 in the first game of a series and five of its last six as a guest battling a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500. On the other side of the stadium, Boston has dropped 17 of its last 21 after scoring two runs or less previously, 42 of its last 59 against division foes, and 39 of its last 56 facing a foe with a winning record.

Still 4.0-games back in the AL Wild Card race with only 10 games remaining, the Orioles will approach each of their remaining 10 battles as if they were playoff games. Take Baltimore with Lyles. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
